News Flash – QuickBooks 2009 and QuickBooks Enterprise 9.0 Update R14 Released

The following changes, improvements, and fixes were made to QuickBooks Pro 2009, QuickBooks Premier 2009, and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 9.0. Later releases (ones with higher numbers) include all changes in earlier releases.

NOTE: you must be logged in as the company file Administrator to update your company file from any previous releases to the R14 release.

Release 14 (R14)

Accounts Receivable
  • The due date for the resulting invoice will now be correctly calculated when you duplicate an invoice.
Application Integration
  • Loan manager and Cash Flow Projector now work when IE 9.0 is installed.
Upcoming Service Discontinuation
  • Changes to help you with Service Discontinuation which takes effect May 31, 2012.
PDF
  • QuickBooks should no longer display the error “could not print to printer” when emailing statements in batches.
QuickBooks Online Banking
  • QuickBooks will no longer unexpectedly close when downloading fee transactions if the memo field contains non-alphanumeric characters.
QuickBooks Time Tracker
  • Because the Time Tracker feature is no longer supported by Intuit, the access points for this feature have been removed from QuickBooks 2009.
Release 13 (R13)

Application Integration
  • You can now open the Damaged Goods, Customer Returned Material Authorization and Non-Conforming Material Report forms in Microsoft Word 2010. (These forms are only available in the Manufacturing and Wholesale edition.)
Connected Services and Data Sync
  • The Intuit Sync Manager has been updated to the latest available version in QuickBooks 2009.
File Operations
  • The Verify log file (QBWin.log) will now display the Transaction Number and Form Number which is displayed on the form inside QuickBooks.
  • Built in Password Reset
    • QuickBooks can now reset your company file admin password from within the program.
    • Correct registration and license information is required to complete the process (to verify your identity).
  • The version of QuickBooks that a Portable File is from will now display when you hover the mouse cursor over the file name.
Help
  • Help topics for Memorized Transactions and many other help topics have been updated.
Payroll
  • Employer’s telephone number is now available to print on the paystub.

Accountant’s Copy
  • Opening a QBX file created by an Accountant’s Copy of a new .QBW file will no longer display an unexpected error and fail to import.
Close QuickBooks
  • QuickBooks will no longer display “Qbw32.exe Application Error” or “QuickBooks has stopped working” when closing.
Payroll
  • Payroll setup will no longer display Payroll Setup Error 00013 49033 when using manual payroll.
  • The Income Subject to Tax column can now edited on Liability Adjustment Transactions.
  • Payroll forms 941, 943, and 944 have been updated to comply with the HIRE act.
QuickBooks Merchant Services
  • When reconciling transactions from Merchant Services into QuickBooks, the subaccount information should now display correctly.
Release 11 (R11)

Company Snapshot
  • Company Snapshot now displays for the “…to Date” preset date ranges (e.g. This Year-to-date or This-Quarter-to-Date).
Payroll
  • The preference to “recall hour field on paychecks” is available again.
  • Historical paystubs are now sent to the View My Paycheck “Select Pay Stubs” window.
Payroll: Assisted Payroll
  • The current year SUI rate for some states can now be edited when the change meets the criteria of the States upper and lower limits.
PDF
  • 64 bit systems will now be compatible with the PDF printer driver. The error: “You cannot print directly to the the QuickBooks PDF Converter… ” should no longer be displayed.
Sales Tax
  • Sales Tax Revenue Summary report now displays correctly after updating to the R10 update.
Release 9 (R9)

Accountant Specific
  • The View/Export Changes for Client screen no longer contains changes entered in a previous Accountant’s Copy.
  • Toggling between skus no longer causes QuickBooks to close unexpectedly when Office 2007 is installed on the same computer.
Accountant’s Copy
  • The Accountant’s Copy feature now supports the Client Data Review “Reviewed” mark.
  • Client Data Review created by the accountant is now exported from Accountant’s Copy.
  • The accountant user is prevented from creating invoices from time and expenses data. In Accountant’s Copy, the menu item ‘Invoice from Time & Expenses’ will not be displayed when this preference is turned on by the client.
  • Import of Accountant’s Copy no longer fails when importing Payment Item amount in Credit memo/Refund.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays an unrecoverable error when adding or deleting a group item in some Accountant’s Copy (.QBA) file.
Accounts Receivable
  • Using the notepad to enter notes for a customer in the middle of creating an invoice will no longer cause custom field data previously entered on the invoice to disappear.
  • QuickBooks will no longer display an “Action Cancelled” page when attempting to open Receive Payments or Create Sales Receipts on a computer with no internet connection.
  • QuickBooks no longer closes unexpectedly when creating an Estimate for a customer.
Application Integration
  • The QuickBooks support website now links to the correct version of the Synch Contacts tool. This allows users to download and install the new version so that QuickBooks will no longer display the message: QuickBooks Contact Sync 2.0 has encountered errors. Please close this dialog and restart sync.”
  • QuickBooks is now able to access URL containing special characters such as ampersand [&].
Backup and Restore
  • QuickBooks will no longer shut down with an unexpected error when rebuilding or backing up a QuickBooks company file that previously displayed the unexpected error.
  • Backup file size is no longer doubled if the backup is saved in the QuickBooks letter templates folder.
  • QuickBooks will now correctly backup files that have a file name longer than 64 characters.
Centers
  • Vendor Notes are now available from the Vendor Center.
Company File Upgrade
  • QuickBooks will now check the file for integrity before attempting to update it.
  • Upgrading files from QuickBooks versions prior to 2006 will no longer fail with an unexpected or fatal error.
Database
  • Resolved the Error -6032, -158: “An error occurred when QuickBooks tried to access the company file” when converting a company file from 2006 to 2009.
File Operations
  • Entering memorized transactions no longer fails when estimates are added to memorized txns (auto enter).
  • QuickBooks will now display the (-6000, -82) and the (-xxxx, -301) errors much less often.
Help
  • QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions and Premier Accountant Edition no longer incorrectly states that Unit of Measure is not available in your version of QuickBooks when viewing certain help topics.
  • Help topics for Credit Card Protection have been updated.
Intuit Statement Writer
  • When using Intuit Statement Writer selecting multiple rows & using Excel command of Insert no longer causes copying of account name and values where they should not be.
Intuit Sync Manager
  • Incremental syncs via sync manager will now complete successfully.
Lists
  • Resolved an issue where Name Lists were not displaying.
Multi-Currency
  • Creating a refund now uses the selected currency as part of the criteria when auto-selecting a bank account for the check.
  • General Journal transactions in files with Multi Currency activated can now be modified as needed.
  • Statements that include detailed information from Invoices now show the currency without a dollar sign when the currency is not USD.
  • Currency information is no longer missing when Customer or Vendor Information is printed from within the centers.
  • When a transaction is edited while another user is in the Home Currency Adjustment window, the Home Currency Adjustment can no longer be saved without checking the file to see if existing transactions have been changed.
  • Realized gain/loss from a refund check created from a credit memo now posts to the Realized Gain/Loss report.
  • User without modify access to currency list can no longer download exchange rates.
  • Blank targets are no longer added to transactions after clearing & selecting a customer/vendor.

  • Currencies with exchange rate lower than 4 decimal places now print properly when printing the list.
  • Editing Exchange rate on a Credit Card Refund linked to a Credit Card Charge now updates the exchange gain/loss.
  • Editing the Exchange rate on a Credit Card Refund linked to a Bill Credit now updates the exchange gain/loss.
  • When applying ARRefundCreditCardAdd through the SDK to a multicurrency account, the balance total is now updated.
  • Editing the exchange rate on an auto-recalled bill no longer generates an out of balance transaction.
  • The currency field is now grayed out when Quick-Adding a job to a customer that already has a currency set.
  • QuickBooks now posts a warning message instead of unexpectedly closing (error code 15361 28781) when an attempt is made to deposit home currency amounts to a foreign bank account.
Payroll
  • QuickBooks will no longer display unrecoverable error 14775 when creating or sending payroll.
  • The Send Payroll confirmation report in QuickBooks now shows the employee and amounts.
  • QuickBooks now allows the next year’s rate to be entered on payroll items that are created after July 1st.
  • When a liability check has two detail lines for the same item and amount, both are now applied.
  • QuickBooks no longer incorrectly calculates the Withholding taxes incorrectly if the effective date of a withholding tax change is not at the beginning of a tax quarter or year, and the system date is prior to the effective date of the withholding tax change.
  • Employee Organizer no longer creates duplicate state withholding items.
  • QuickBooks now warns when an employee is added with a Social Security number already in the employee list.
Payroll: Assisted Payroll
  • Can now change the Paid Through date on a non-tax liability payment once sent if on the Assisted Payroll Service.
PDF
  • PDF Converter is no longer lost when upgrading to a new operating system.
  • Remote Desktop users accessing QuickBooks via terminal services are now able to save to pdf on Windows Server 2008 – 64 bit.
  • The background color will no longer turn black when saving a file as a PDF.
  • The PDF printer driver is now called version 3.0.
Printing
  • Can now print properly on Vista 64 bit OS pre SP1.
QuickBooks Online Banking
  • QuickBooks Online Banking new account setup can now be completed when there is a PIN change required.
  • Payee names containing & are now displayed correctly.
  • The left hand side of the online banking screen is no longer black when no transactions are present on Windows Vista.
  • QuickBooks will no longer allow a non-USD currency bank account to import online transactions.
  • Using the Open option after logging into the bank’s website through QuickBooks will no longer display the “No new transactions” dialog when transactions are available
  • QuickBooks should no longer download duplicate transactions when a web connect file is imported a second time.
  • A credit card payment now defaults to Credit Card Credit instead of Credit card Payment. It will now have “CC CRED” instead of “TRNSFR” in the Chart of accounts. The radio buttons have also been reordered to show CC Credit first and then, CC Payment on the Right Hand Side of the Online Banking Side-by-Side screen.
  • The error “Alias already exists” is no longer displayed when changing a downloaded alias to another QuickBooks name.
  • The up and down arrow keys will now allow movement to the next transaction in the left hand side of the Side-by-side online banking screen.
  • When adding split lines to downloaded transactions in the Side-by-side online banking window, tabbing into the next field now highlights the existing text or puts the field into edit mode so it can be changed by typing without clicking on the selected field again.
  • The right hand and left hand sides of the online banking screen will no longer be out of sync after adding an online banking transaction from the Add Multiple feature.
  • QuickBooks no longer selects the ‘Deposit Online Banking transaction’ radio button when the ‘Record a QB deposit’ button should be selected after cancelling adding a new account in the online banking screen.
  • QuickBooks will no longer display the Unexpected Error C=51 when using the Online Banking feature if names in the company file contain non-printable characters.
  • QuickBooks will no longer unexpectedly close when some renamed and matched transactions are processed with Finish Later while the manual match screen is open.
  • QuickBooks no longer closes unexpectedly when multicurrency is turned on and you quickadd a name in the Online Banking register.
  • QuickBooks will no longer display the message that “Payee named [Vendor Name] detected” or, “This payee is already an online payee – please select a non-online payee.” when a bank updates its name or merges with another bank.
  • QuickBooks will no longer allow a non-USD currency bank account to be setup for Online Banking or Online Services.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays “Error: CleaningDownloadedPay in some use cases that were not fixed in prior releases.
  • Company files that do not have Multi Currency enabled will no longer filter the Undeposited Funds and Open Invoice transactions from the Online Banking screens.
  • Payees that are not setup as USD currency are not pre-filled in the online banking screens.
  • When there are unprintable characters in the the names used for Online Banking a warning is displayed and the Add Multiple screens do not open because the names cannot be used.
  • No longer get an Unexpected Error c=47 when accessing the online banking register view after updating a file from Pro to Premier.
QuickBooks Online Billing
  • Downloaded QuickBooks Billing Solutions payment creation no longer fails for payments with a discount and sub-account.
Reconcile
  • QuickBooks will no longer close unexpectedly with an error while reconciling when the service charge account or interest account have been deleted.
Reports
  • QuickBooks will no longer display an error and close unexpectedly when accessing the General Ledger report.
  • QuickBooks will no longer display an Out of Memory message when running the Audit Trail report for all dates.
  • Are now able to properly open memorized list reports after updating company files.
  • Having the preference “Show Lowest Sub-Account” and duplicate sub names no longer causes an error in when runing the Budget to Actual report.
  • The report is now displayed when selecting an industry specific job cost report.
  • The report is now displayed when selecting the Sales Tax Liability report.
  • QuickBooks will no longer display the Out of Memory error when running reports that use a very large number of transactions.
SDK
  • SalesReceiptMod is no longer Accepting Invalid details of PriceLevel for an Item without showing any error
  • Unit of Measure is now coming up in ItemGroupQuery , ItemGroupMod ,ItemGroupAdd Response.
Startup
  • QuickBooks no longer displays the severe error: “MauiMain:IsIEPresentfailed. Exiting…” when launching QuickBooks on a Windows 7 computer that has Internet Explorer disabled.
  • QuickBooks now displays a message instead of closing unexpectedly when trying to login to some company files.
User Interface
  • Credit Total on Bill Credit History is now aligned properly when displaying more than 8 characters.
Users and Permissions
  • The customer credit card data stored in QuickBooks will no longer become corrupted in certain circumstances where the Admin password was changed.
  • The External Accountant user will no longer be restricted from using the Reconcile feature. It may be necessary to rebuild the company file after updating to R9 or later for this change to take effect.
Release 8 (R8)

Accountant’s Copy
  • QuickBooks will no longer remove the PDF print driver when saving Accountant’s changes as a PDF file.
Backup and Restore
  • Restoring a company backup file from Windows to Linux no longer generates an Assertion message.
  • Restoring a Backup with same name in linux machines no longer causes continuous assertion messages or damaged restored files.
Centers
  • QuickBooks now verifies before displaying the notes, to see if the current user has a right to modify the employee. If the user has Modify permissions then the user will now be able to see the employee notes.
Client Data Review
  • The Sales Tax report in Client Data review will now only show checks.
Company File Update
  • The icon bar settings from QuickBooks 2007 will now be correctly updated to QuickBooks 2009 when a company file is updated.
Database
  • Running QuickBooks Database Manager on IBM SmartCube on Linux, will no longer fail to establish a Multi-User connection to the company file.
  • Many instances of the (-6xxx, -82) error displayed during a file update have been fixed.
  • QuickBooks will no longer display a (-6000, -305) error when it is caused by a missing or damaged TLG file but the company file is not damaged.
  • QuickBooks now sends database crash information for some database errors using the send error system in QuickBooks.
  • QuickBooks will no longer display error code 19233 71018 when opening a company file.
Excel (Send Reports to Excel)
  • Running a state tax form report in a file with new taxes setup will now export properly to Excel.
File Operations
  • QuickBooks will no longer display a connection lost message during when Verifying the company file. Verify now reports any problems with the file and Rebuild is able to complete.
  • QuickBooks will no longer display a generic failure message during Verify data when minor data issues are encountered. The correct error will now be displayed and running Rebuild Data will correct the problem instead of producing a crash error message.

Install
  • Prior versions of QuickBooks will no longer display the update error 15240 after uninstalling QuickBooks 2009.
Intuit Statement Writer
  • QuickBooks Will no longer display the Fatal Error: Unable to open statement: FSD.Common.FSDException: Error while opening statement —> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800A03EC) after modifying a statement using Office 2007 and re-opening.
Live Community
  • The Live Community password recovery system will no longer display blank content.
Multi-Currency
  • QuickBooks will now correctly restrict the user to choosing a bank account that matches the currency of the Undeposited Funds account when making a deposit.
  • Assertion error messages no longer occur when manually written checks are applied to a existing bills for a vendor when Multi-Currency is enabled.
  • Entering cash back on deposit and then entering exchange rate no longer causes incorrect gain/loss
  • QuickBooks no longer crashes when clicking “Go to pay bills” on write checks if the message that exchange set to 1 appears.
  • QuickBooks no longer crashes when Paying a bill through a check for a Vendor who has a different currency.
  • Paying Accounts Receivable balance created from check with a credit memo now creates the exchange gain/loss.
Payroll
  • QuickBooks will no longer allow the year to be changed when modifying the date on a recorded paycheck.
  • Payroll Help Topics have been updated, including the economic stimulus.
  • Connecticut liability payments will now be split by quarter when the period the payment covers is in part of each quarter.
  • There is a new message instructing customers to sync their file with the payroll service before creating an accountant’s copy.
  • QuickBooks will prompt for the frequency to be entered for some state payroll items where tax laws have recently changed.
  • The handling of Rounding adjustments have been improved.
  • Payments for payroll liabilities such as 401k and Health Insurance will no longer fail to be applied correctly when the frequency spans a calendar year.
  • The liabilities and payments matching has been improved.
  • A user who does not have the permission to “Modify” a paycheck and tries editing a paycheck, on trying to save using the “Save & Close” button, are now given a warning saying that they don’t have the edit permissions for that action.
Payroll: Assisted Payroll
  • Customers who are actively using Assisted payroll will no longer see an Edit button in the Service Key window. When the service key needs to be changed it will require a contact to Assisted Payroll. The changes will flow into QuickBooks the next time the a payroll is sent.
Preferences
  • The Home page no longer is displayed after backup when the “display home page” preference is not selected.
QuickBooks Online Banking
  • Now get a warning that account is required instead of the less obvious error ‘system.NullReferenceException: object refrence not set to an instance of an object at OLB_Workflow.UICtrl_AddMultiple.ValidateRow..’.
  • No longer get the message “Error: Transaction could not be created” after importing some .qbo files that import without error the second time.
  • Clicking through the grid no longer causes the dialog to show up when there is nothing in the specific field.
  • Quickfill will now only take into account what the user has typed, not what has been put in the field by QuickBooks when typing in account names.
  • Once an account name quickfills, hitting the right arrow key no longer causes the cursor to move to the next field. The cursor will now go to the end of the string.
  • The “Name not found” dialog box no longer comes up when you click the show split link
  • After selecting Add Multiple, the selected value in the payee field now saves when leaving cell using DownArrow/UpArrow keys.
  • The Quickfill now works when you are editing a field.
  • Help topics for online banking’s Add Multiple feature were updated.
  • In the Add Multiple, if you type a name not recognized by QB in the Payee field and press the down arrow, the field is no longer prefilled with a QB name and the Add New window appears instead.
  • Tabbing through the fields no longer brings up the Select Name Type dialog if the Payee is blank.
  • Pressing the UpArrow key in the Payee dropdown now moves to
  • Using the down Arrow no longer selects the next item on the list when the dropdown is not open.
  • Pressing key from Account field (last row) moves focus to “Add Selected” instead of “Cancel”.
  • Accounts created by Add Multiple New are now prefilled in the Account cell – window.
  • The last name added via Add New no longer appears in the Payee field next time Add New is selected.
  • The online banking workflow redraws properly now without leaving extra lines.
  • You can now select a specific account to download instead of always downloading for all accounts.
  • Quickfill for short name now works properly. If you have customer:job (parent:job1:job2) and you type job 2, Quickfill will now fill properly.
  • Drop downs now show correct account selection for the quickfilled account like if you have expense account “m” and income account “ma”. Typing m then clicking the drop down will now go to the “m” account instead of the “ma” account.
  • You can now quickfill to a vendor name if a customer has a similar name.
  • Quickfill will now quickfill properly in Deposit grid & Add Multiple grid.
  • All data is now preserved after entering info and tabbing from one filed to another.
  • Alt-R opens the Reports menu and does not remove selected line in the online banking workflow.
  • When using Add Multiple – Pressing after using up/dn arrow to select will now bring up “Add New”
  • When recording a QuickBooks deposit in Online Banking, the checkbox to select available open invoices is now selectable.
  • When on an account that has only matched transactions and the enter key is selected while the Add Multiple window is open, you no longer get the error “System.nullReferenceException”.
  • The quickfill of an account name that has similar characters to other account names in the list has been improved.
  • Turning off class tracking in preferences while editing an online banking transaction with the cursor in the class field will no longer cause the error “‘System.ArgumentOutOfRange…at OLBUICustomeControlLibrary.SimpleTransaction.HideTablecolumn.
  • QuickBooks online banking now offers the option to switch to classic mode. The screens for matching transactions will look identical to the matching screens from QuickBooks 2008!
  • A new preference has been added to the Checking preferences to allow a choice between the 2008 Online Banking screens and the 2009 screens.
Release 7 (R7)

Accountant’s Copy
  • Payment items on invoices created in the accountant’s copy now correctly import when the accountant’s changes are imported.
  • Using large or small exchange rates no longer cause QuickBooks to crash while creating invoices, sales receipts or credit memos.
  • Exchange rate of .00000000000001 displays correctly now rather than displaying as .00000000.
  • Importing a modified but previously existing payment will no longer fail.
  • When a transaction fails to import, subsequent reconciliations affected by the transaction will be skipped.
  • The ‘Save as PDF’ default location is now set to the same location where the company file is located.
  • Import completes without generating an error when Expense account of Credit Card Charge/Credit was changed to an AP or Sales Tax Payable account.
  • Account numbers that were blank before the accountant review will no longer use the first non-blank value as the original value. The original value will now be retained as blank.
Accounts Payable
  • Deleting a deposit with a payment as one of the items no longer causes an Unexpected Error code. It also will no longer create orphan links that require a Rebuild of the data file.
Application Integration
  • The Intuit Statement Writer opening screen now displays a help link for supporting documents.
Database
  • Exempt Organization non-profit (Tax Form 990) has been updated.
File Operations
  • QuickBooks 2009 is now able to convert a Quicken 2009 data file for use in Quickbooks.
  • QuickBooks product information screen will no longer display file sizes larger than 2GB as a negative number.
  • Portable company files created from company files larger than 2 GB in size can now be restored successfully.
  • QuickBooks no longer display an unexpected error after importing a name list from an IIF file.
Install
  • The default options for installing the QuickBooks PDF have been updated to make it compatible with 64 bit Operating Systems. QuickBooks can now print to PDF when installed on a 64 bit Operating system.
  • QuickBooks can now be installed on Windows Vista Business edition with Service Pack 1.
Intuit Statement Writer
  • Splitting out accounts and inserting a row in between accounts no longer carries over cell protection.
  • Intuit Statement writer now removes invalid characters detected in the company name when creating new to prevent errors from being generated.
  • All supporting documents from Financial Statement are now migrated into Intuit Statement Writer.
  • Split accounts now lists accounts in the same order as they appear in the Chart of Accounts.
  • COGS balance now reports correctly in Intuit Statement Writer when splitting out sub COGS accts in Income Statement.
  • Financial Statement Designer now works properly when QuickBooks Enterprise 9.0 and QuickBooks 2009 are installed on the same system.
  • Statement Date now gets formatted properly after performing “Insert Statement Date”.
  • Added columns in Budget-to-Actual statements can now be renamed without generating unhandled exception errors.
  • Intuit Statement Writer now has an option to tell it not to print 0.00 balance accounts.
  • There is now a link to on the action pane toolbar to open the supporting documents.
  • Amounts now come over properly from QuickBooks when creating balance sheet or the income statements that include information from subaccounts.
Invoices
  • The toolbars have been added back to the Credit Card Processing Kit and to Invoice Manager.
Lists
  • List Review now displays all changes and not just the last change. Previously if you changed something from A to B, then from B to C, then from C to D, List Review would only show a change from C to D.
  • List Review now displays the correct “New Value” when Modifying Asset Account of an item.
  • List Review now tracks the modified Asset Account of Fixed Asset Item.
  • Customer Contact Information no longer changes or disappears when changing to a sub-job or parent.
Multi-Currency

  • It is no longer possible to select a settlement date for MD UI or UT EFPT. because the state does not act on the information. There is now a message that explains this change.
  • QuickBooks will no longer allow the year to be changed when modifying the date on a recorded paycheck.
  • The accounts drop down in the After The Fact Payroll screen will no longer show existing or new non-USD accounts when the MC accounts feature is on.
  • The number of voided paychecks has been added to the existing display of Send/Receive payroll data.
  • When payroll forms are processed from the payroll tab of the employee center the screen will now return to the payroll tab instead of the employee center instead.
  • QuickBooks now correctly displays all of the text the server replies with after entering an incorrect PIN.
  • QuickBooks will no longer display error code 2088839915 and close when paying employees.
  • Payroll liabilities will no longer appear overdue after they have been paid if the through date on the liability checks does not match the liability payment period end-date.

    • If users need to use Items they can go to Write Checks or Record Credit Card Charges to create a matching transaction.
    • Users can also refer to their register while they have the Online Banking window open.
  • Manual Match: Messages now display properly on top rather than behind the Online Banking Window when transactions are selected.

  • QuickBooks no longer crashes when trying to load Online Banking when the company file has more than 65535 names.

Accountant’s Copy
  • The Accountant’s Copy Change Report now allows the user to “QuickZoom” the transaction by double- clicking the listed imported transactions.
  • The messaging displayed when updating an Accountant’s Copy (.QBX) file from QuickBooks 2008 to QuickBooks 2009 has been updated to communicate the level of backwards compatibility between the Accountant’s Copy features of each version.
  • The Accountant’s Copy no longer updates the Check Number field when importing the Accountant’s changes. The Check Number field was not intended to be changeable by the Accountant.
  • QuickBooks now automatically saves the Change Report as a PDF at the end of an Accountant’s Copy import.
  • The Client Data Review feature now shows items that were previously hidden while in an Accountant’s Copy. If these features are accessed, a message appears explaining that these features are not available.
  • QuickBooks no longer crashes while importing Accountant’s Copy changes after the client restrictions have been removed.
  • QuickBooks no longer appears to be frozen while saving Accountant’s Changes in PDF format. A message now appears with information while the PDF is being created.
  • QuickBooks no longer automatically saves a PDF report of the Accountant Changes when the import failed because of an invalid transaction.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays an unexpected or fatal error when importing an Accountant’s Copy file that contains unsupported Finance Charge changes from a different version of QuickBooks.

  • QuickBooks will no longer display a severe error when importing a deposit through the accountant’s copy that contained multiple currencies.
  • Multi-currency Exchange Rates entered by accountants to Journal Entry are now imported.
Accounts Payable
  • Account Payable field has been added to “Record a Bill Pmt” if there are multiple Account Payable accounts.
  • While in the Record an Expense workflow, when a Vendor that has open bills is selected, a message appears saying, “This vendor has open bills. To add a bill payment, click the ‘Not an expense?’ link in the upper right and then click ‘Select open bills to pay in QuickBooks.’
  • Open bills for an inactive Account Payable is no longer displayed in the Pay Bills workflow.
Accounts Receivable
  • Negative amounts on the Deposit workflow no longer appear with parentheses.
  • If the deposit amount is larger that the Invoice amount, the Receive Payment is now linked to the Invoice.
  • Payment balance of $0.00 has been removed from Payment Receipt to prevent the possibility of user confusion caused by thinking the account balances might be $0.00 when user is actually still owed money.
  • QuickBooks no longer attempts to connect to the Internet before opening the Receive Payments or Create Sales Receipts screens when no Internet connection is available.
Backup & Restore
  • Scheduled backup no longer fails when different scheduled tasks (for different company file) run at the same time.
  • You can now make a manual backup of one file while a scheduled backup is running for a second file.
  • The backup that is made before upgrading from QuickBooks 2006 to QuickBooks 2009 now has QuickBooks 2006 as the header and not QuickBooks 2009 as the header, making the backup usable in QuickBooks 2006.
Centers
  • Turning off price levels no longer causes the Custom Field Label to obscure the first field in the customer Custom Fields.
  • The Income/Expense graph widget in the Company snapshot is now updated, based on the saved Report preferences.
Client Data Review
  • The performance of the Client Data Review tool has been improved. Switching between Vendors and Customers or Vendor transactions and Customer transactions is much faster.

Intuit Statement Writer
  • There is now an Intuit Statement Writer option to bring back all One Time Messages that were previously dismissed.
  • The Statement Date Format in the Intuit Statement Writer now changes the row height based on the contents of the cell.
  • Intuit Statement Writer no longer displays the Error: “Unable to access file to insert the manifest into the xls file” when trying to open a .qsm file if a .xls file with the same name is in the same location.
  • Insert is now greyed out when the ability to insert should be disabled.
  • The stylesheeets have been updated to allow formulas to take effect right away when inserting data between existing columns.
  • Intuit Statement Writer no longer displays the error: Data.xls exception when ISW.Header2 is Bold and Font is “Brush Script MT” in Excel 2007.

Multi-Currency
  • Currency formatting has been improved on transactions shown in the print preview screen before they are saved.
  • Line items are no longer affected by exchange rate changes for purchase transactions.
  • Values In Transaction/Home Currency now appear and print on the Transaction Summary Reports.
  • An unexpected error no longer occurs when saving a new Vendor in the Vendor Center when the list is sorted by currency.
  • A customer’s currency can now be changed if a price level is associated with the Customer.
  • Invoice now shows amounts for a customer in the currency set for that customer, rather than showing all amounts on the invoice as USD.
  • Transactions added using the SDK now allow depositing into home currency accounts from foreign currency accounts.

Backup & Restore

Copy File for QuickBooks Mac
  • When Exporting for Mac, the files that are created from the export were always 88 bytes in size and had no data in them. This has been corrected so your information is now exported for Mac and will import to the Mac version.
File Operations
  • Double clicking a QuickBooks 2008 company file no longer fails to open it in QuickBooks 2008 when QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 9.0 is also installed.
  • File operations in QuickBooks may fail if Sync Mgr or Scheduled Backup is in the file performing a task when the file operation is initiated. For example, a sync could be quietly in progress when a user performs a QuickBooks file operation such as Condense or Restore. The QuickBooks file operation might then fail because it is unable to gain exclusive access to the file due to the file still being open by Sync Mgr or Scheduled Backup. QuickBooks now locks the file to perform the file operations and then lets the Sync Mgr or Scheduled Backup resume the previous operation.
Help
  • A new help topic was added for the Simple Start Homepage.
  • A new help topic was added for the Invoice Manager Homepage.
  • A menu command was added to the Statement Writer menu for the Community forums.
Intuit Statement Writer
  • When you see a message about protected cells and you dismiss the message, the program returns to normal operation instead of producing the not responding state.
  • This was changed to always select the top row when done, regardless of first row clicked while selecting rows to roll up.
  • This was modified to take the Total column into account when it exists and to allow you to choose Total columns as well as Amount columns.
  • All explanatory text now appears without being cut off next to fields or columns.
Live Community

  • QuickBooks no longer displays an unknown DBUnload error when creating a portable company file if a Data Sync is running in the background.
QuickBooks Merchant Services
  • The situation where a modal window could get “stuck” behind the Homepage rendering QuickBooks useless until dismissed was changed so the modal window is no longer modal.
QuickBooks Online Banking
  • QuickBooks no longer displays an Unhandled Exception error when clicking the Select items to Delete button in the online banking workflow.
  • QuickBooks no longer fails to release exclusive use of the Online Banking feature when there are not accounts setup for Online Banking.
  • QuickBooks now displays the correct message when a user does not have adequate permissions for Online Banking: You need Checking and Credit Cards and Sensitive Accounting Activities permission to perform this action. Ask your QuickBooks Administrator to grant you this permission.
  • QuickBooks now changes the display based on what type of connection to your FI is chosen. The choices are Web Connect or Direct Connect.
  • The QuickBooks Balance in the Online Banking center now correctly refreshes to match the balance in the QuickBooks Chart of Accounts.
  • The QuickBooks Online Banking Center is now saved as part of the QuickBooks Desktop when the Desktop is Saved. The Online Banking Center appears when the file is opened again.
  • The Amount to Pay column can now be re-sized when paying bills using Online Banking.
  • Ctrl + F4 now correctly closes the open popup message and not the Online Banking Center.
  • The payment information dialog in the Online Banking Center for Credit Card accounts now opens if it is highlighted and the enter key is pressed.
  • QuickBooks no longer incorrectly displays the message “Payment amount cannot be left blank. Resetting value to amount owed.” when sorting bills.
  • All of the columns in the Select Items to Delete screen are now right justified.
  • QuickBooks will no longer display the “entered item not found…” message in the Online Banking Center when paying bills if the payee is not a vendor.
  • Inactive sub-classes are no longer displayed in the class dropdown of the Online Banking workflow screen.
  • QuickBooks now prompts you to save the changes to a transaction that has been modified when the Renaming rules interface is opened.
  • The Alias for a vendor is now removed when a new vendor is created with an identical name to the Alias.
  • Class info is now saved on General Journal transactions entered through the Online Banking workflow.
  • The error “Alias already exists” no longer appears when changing a downloaded alias to another QuickBooks name.
  • The “System.AccessViolation….” error no longer appears after trying multiple times to enter a transaction through Online Banking that the user does not have adequate permissions to enter.
  • Matched transactions can now be confirmed even if the system data format is dd-MM-yyyy.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays an unexpected error and closes when making a name that has an online banking alias inactive.
  • The Open Bills exist for this vendor dialog is now displayed during the Online Banking workflow when a vendor with open bills is selected.
  • Payee account number is not pre-filling the Bill Pmt Memo field even though the Autofill payee account number in check memo Preference is turned ON. This has been fixed so the preferences is recognized and adhered to.
  • There might be a situation where transactions get out of sync if a user is matching an Online Banking Transaction to a transactions that another user is editing or deleting. Now the transaction will be locked when it is being matched in online banking and when the update and matching is complete the transaction will be released for others to work on it.
  • Sorting by Date and Amount will sort by Date and Amount now instead of sorting only by Date.
QuickBooks Online Services
  • The name of the Warehouse Management ES feature of QuickBooks Enterprise has been changed to Warehouse Management.
Reports
  • The values and tool tips now appear for minor values on the Income and Expense Graph.
SDK
  • When using the SDK to enter transactions for vendors with a name longer than 31 characters, the QuickBooks SDK no longer displays a message that the account field is too long.
  • The Intuit Sync Manager app now seamlessly integrates with QuickBooks via the SDK so that the admin user will not be notified when Sync Manager attaches for the first time and the Sync Manager will always use a pre-defined role (set of permissions) when accessing QuickBooks.
  • When using the SDK to enter a request for JouurnalEntry Mod and it modifies a Line Item and doesn’t modify the Exchange Rate, the Exchange Rate appears as 1, even if it is not 1. The proper Exchange Rate appears.

News Flash – QuickBooks 2012 and QuickBooks Enterprise 12.0 Update R6 Released

The following changes, improvements, and fixes were made to QuickBooks Pro 2012, QuickBooks Premier 2012, and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 12.0. Later releases (ones with higher numbers) include all changes in earlier releases.

Release 6 (R6)

1099 Wizard
  • The following improvements have been made to the mapping screen in the wizard:
    • Accounts will be in the same order as the Chart of Accounts.
    • Added tooltip that will display the full parent and sub account path when mouse cursor hovers over the account name.
    • Appending the Account Number before the Account Name when the preference, Show Account number is enabled.
  • Improved handling of parent and subaccounts with 1099 account mapping.
  • The following reports are now available under the Vendors > Print/E-file 1099s menu:

1099 Forms
  • Important: The account mapping, 1099 thresholds and vendor address information have been improved in the 1099 Wizard. It is recommended that you install Release 5 before completing your 1099 forms.
Accountant Specific
  • The ‘Sales Tax’ preference will be retained after upgrading a QBA file.
  • The Support option in the Help menu will now open ProAdvisor Support when accessed from the Accountant Edition of QuickBooks.
  • A long dash will no longer cause an error when Sending Accountants Copy Changes back to the client.
  • Memorized Report Groups with & in label will now show in the Accountant Center.
  • The data displayed on the Accountant Center is now more dependent on the permissions of the logged in user.
Advanced Inventory (Available in Enterprise Solutions Only)
  • Serial or Lot Number reports will no longer include items without serial/lot numbers or negative serial/lot numbers.
  • The default report for Inventory Stock Status by Site report will no longer include Drop Ship as a site. You will have the ability to add this to the report if you want to see it.
  • Lot Numbers Quick View window will no longer display the Serial Number view when you quick zoom on a lot number field.
  • The Select All button is now enabled in Add Multiple Serial Numbers window when search results are returned.
  • 0.00 no longer appears in the Count Adjustment field when selecting a blank line item for a Lot Number adjustment.
  • Filtering the Inventory worksheet will no longer change what is displayed when the Item List and Inventory Center is opened.
  • Transfer Inventory form will now include a description column.
  • Assembly item descriptions will no longer display in any of the stock reports when no items are listed.
  • When transferring inventory to different sites, the Purchase Description will appear in the Description field if an inventory item does not have a sales description.
  • Lot Numbers count will now be displayed when running a quick zoom in the Lot Numbers In Stock and Lot Numbers in Stock by Site reports.
  • Serial and Lot Number fields will now save when 40 characters (max) are used in the fields.
  • You will no longer see an extra number in the qty field when entering 9,999,999,999.99999 for a specific lot.
  • You will no longer see the message, “Sorry, you cannot select/use this message now”, when emailing transactions with serial numbers.
Application Integration
  • QuickBooks will now display the message “Sending Email Through Thunderbird” when you are using Thunderbird to send QB email.
  • Loan manager and Cash Flow Projector now work when IE 9.0 is installed.
Calendar
  • Enterprise Only – There is a new permission for Calendar payroll access. By default this is set to full access for all default users. You can use this permission to restrict user accounts from seeing payroll transactions on the QuickBooks Calendar.
  • The extra row at the bottom of the calendar has been removed.
  • The message “you need Time Tracking permission to perform this action” should no longer display when you open the QuickBooks calendar as a limited (No time tracking access) user.
Document Management
  • Converting an item receipt to a bill will no longer cause the attachment column to disappear.
Email Sales Forms and Statements
  • QuickBooks will no longer display the message “Could not print to printer” when emailing large batches of statements.
  • Double clicking an item in the send forms list will no longer immediately email the item and any others selected.
Enhanced Inventory Receiving (Available in Enterprise Solutions Only)
  • QuickBooks will no longer display the message “Payroll already in use” when attempting to open the ‘Edit Payment Due Dates/Methods’ screen.
  • Select POs & Item Receipts on the Items tab of a bill has been renamed to Select Related Transactions and displayed correctly.
  • You will no longer receive an Unexpected Error C=47 when saving changes to a purchase order linked to an unsaved item receipt.
  • With Enhanced Inventory Receiving turned on, you will now be able to manually close a purchase order and have it linked to an item receipt during the receiving process.
  • When receiving against a purchase order, you will now be able to manually close the purchase order and have it linked to a bill.
  • Closed or Received in Full Purchase Orders will no longer appear in the list of Select Related Transactions list when they have a subtotal line, group item, description only line, or blank line.
  • The message,” “Sorry, you cannot change this item receipt now. Single-user-only interactive feature is currently doing a task that uses the data in this transaction,” will no longer appear when converting an item receipt to a bill.
  • You can now bill for a Purchase Order after you’ve already entered the item receipt.
  • The Enhanced Inventory Receiving convert messaging has been updated to be more clear.
Excel (Send reports to Excel)
  • The values for the Sales by Item Summary and Average Days to Pay reports are now correct when sent to Excel.
  • Excel no longer shows the opposite sign values in the %Change column for comparison reports that are sent to Excel.
  • The Profit and Loss by Job report no longer has additional rows added when sending an update to an existing/saved copy of the report in Excel.
  • The message: “Excel update failed” will no longer display when sending an update to existing/saved sheet that has a space in the name.
  • You will now be able to update the Excel workbook even when new formulas and columns have been added or changed since the report was originally exported.
File Operations
  • The serial/lot # now work correctly (including in search results) after the file has been condensed with serial or lot # tracking enabled.
  • The QuickBooks company file conversion tool will now work on Windows 7 and Windows Vista computers.
  • The Condense data feature now removes timesheets when the “all transactions” option is selected.
  • To Do dates are no longer changed by one day when the file is updated from a previous version of QuickBooks.
  • QuickBooks will no longer open the wrong company file if you sort the list of files in the No company file open screen.
  • Verify and rebuild now have improved capabilities when working with online payees.
  • The help topics for converting from Peachtree to QuickBooks have been updated.
  • You will not see any issues with ‘Verify data’ when you have a QuickBooks 2012 R5/R4/R3 company file open in R1. Verify data will report “No problems have been detected…”
  • The “Edit list” link in the No Company Open window will be available to all editions of QuickBooks.
Help
  • Several Help topics have been updated.
  • Thunderbird Email Client Support help content is now available.
  • You will now see the QuickBooks Enterprise icon when viewing the video in Express Start if you have QuickBooks Enterprise.
  • The display and infrastructure of help articles has been improved.
  • Printing Troubleshooting help articles will no longer show CDATA.
Install
  • .NET 4.0 installation messaging that may be displayed during the QuickBooks install has been improved.
  • Changing to a different edition of Premier or running a repair should no longer display the error “1334: The file “QBW32EnterpriseAccountant.exe” cannot be installed”.
Inventory (Available in Enterprise Solutions Only)
  • Print Item Information on the Inventory Center will now print site-specific data.
  • Disabling the old Cost Changed alert will no longer cause the new Cost changed alert to not show.
  • QuickBooks will now allow non-inventory items to have a negative cost or price.
Lead Center
  • The email address for a lead now appears in the email field and not the CC field when the lead is converted to a customer.
  • Information deleted from a lead will no longer appear for other users.
Lists
  • Price levels no longer round to 2 decimal places when No Rounding is selected.
  • Some strange display issues have been removed from the Item list.
Payroll
  • Resolved an issue where Sick & Vacation balances do not update when editing a pending paycheck.
  • When you turn on the phone number to print on paystubs it will no longer print in the return address section.
  • You can now turn on payroll from the QuickBooks Home screen.
  • QuickBooks will no longer display the message “Payroll already in use” when attempting to open the ‘Edit Payment Due Dates/Methods’ screen or Payroll Setup.
PDF
  • You will now see the QuickBooks Enterprise icon when viewing the video in Express Start if you have QuickBooks Enterprise.
  • QuickBooks will now prompt you to install the XPS document writer when you open QuickBooks if you have Windows XP and it is not installed. If you do not install the XPS Document writer and restart Windows, you will not be able to print to PDF. This is an improvement over not asking to install the needed components.
Performance
  • QuickBooks should perform faster in large files with serial number tracking enabled.
Price Markup and Markup preferences
(Available in Enterprise Solutions Only)
  • In the Edit Markup window, the Type of Markup will no longer change back to the default without having to save the the item.
  • You will now be able to update the price of an item to match the new cost having a zero percentage markup.
  • Price and markup calculation will now calculate correct when a markup value has been defined in the Time and Billing preferences.
  • Edit Markup option will no longer be available for Service and Non-Inventory items not used in assemblies.
  • The text label over the markup text box will now change dynamically based on the ‘Type of Markup’ chosen.
  • The cost and price are no longer changing for build assemblies when an item cost is changed.
  • The Use Default markup setting is no longer lost when you associate an item with a build assembly.
  • The price markup settings on new items are now set to “use default” for cost and price updating.
  • All items set to use default preferences for Price Markup will keep these preferences when updating to the latest release unless you manually edit the individual item.
  • Price markup amount will calculate correctly when the Markup Type preference changes from Percent to Amount.
  • When the Price markup preferences are set to “Ask when updating cost and price”, if you change an item’s cost while creating a bill, and you choose ‘Yes’ for updating the cost and price, the values will get updated successfully.
  • Price markup values will be retained with proper calculations when you upgrade a company file from a prior version of QuickBooks with the preference set to “Amount over cost”.
  • Price markup values will calculate properly when you change the global markup preference from ‘Amount’ to ‘Percent’ or vice versa.
  • You can now set the preferences for Markup Type and they will be retained after you save.
  • Global company preferences for Price Markup will be retained on created or updated items.
  • Price and markup percentages are now calculated correctly when the cost and price are modified during purchases.
  • The changes made in the Price Markup company preference will be applied correctly in the respective areas.
Reports
  • Double-clicking an item on the physical inventory worksheet will now correctly open a quickreport for that item rather than the edit item screen.
  • The audit trail now shows even more detail of quantity changes done in Multi-User mode.
SDK
  • Accessing QuickBooks data using the SDK without opening QuickBooks will no longer cause an unexpected error.
To Dos
  • The display of the To Do list has been improved.
  • You can now sort the To Do list by the Done column.
  • To Do items can now be deleted.
User Interface
  • Permissions for customer payments have been improved.
  • Pending invoices are now listed in the customer center when the filter is set to All Invoices.
  • Using the keyboard shortcut to save a journal entry now refreshes the screen for the next entry.
  • The names list on the timesheet now starts with employees.
Users and Permissions (Available in Enterprise Solutions Only)
  • A new “Find Report” permission is available. This allows you to restrict a use from viewing/printing results of the “Find” menu option. Also, you can specifically enable this to give a user permissions to view or print the results.
  • Permissions for customer payments have been improved.
Release 4 (R4)

Inventory
(Avaialble only in Enterprise Solutions)
  • Cost and/or price on items will no longer incorrectly change when Automatic Price Adjustment company preferences are set to “never update item cost” and “never update sales price” and user had chosen always to update cost in previous version of QuickBooks.
  • When global Automatic Price Adjustment company preferences are set to “never update price” and a user updates the cost of an item on a purchase, the cost of a second, unrelated item will no longer change inadvertently.
  • You will now be able to change an item’s cost on a transaction if the global Automatic Price Adjustment markup preferences are set to “always update price” or “never update cost”.
  • Price markup type is now defaulted correctly to “percent” when a company file is updated from QuickBooks Pro or Premier to Enterprise Solutions.
Startup

Release 3 (R3)

Accountant Specific
  • QuickBooks Help will now open when pressing the F1 key while the Accountant Center is opened.
  • View Changes will no longer generate a Runtime Check Failed error when special characters are in some of the transactions.
  • QuickBooks will no longer crash when credit memos are applied to credit card charges in Client Data Review with a .QBW or .QBA company file.
Accounts Payable
  • The mileage rates have been updated.
  • Setting up and using 1099s in QuickBooks has been improved.
Advanced Inventory
(Avaialble only in Enterprise Solutions)
  • Serial or Lot Number reports will no longer include items without serial/lot numbers or negative serial/lot numbers.
  • QuickBooks will no longer close automatically when enabling the Enhanced Inventory Receiving feature.
  • You will now be able to bill more than you ordered after changing the quantity on purchase orders.
  • Sample Advanced Inventory.QBW file will no longer fail during the verify process.
  • Serial/Lot Tracking reports are now accessible from the Report Center.
  • “Multiple” will no longer appear in the PO/Bill # column when adding additional lines to an existing bill with a reference number.
  • Bill Credit fields will now be editable when switching from Bill to Bill Credit and Bill Credit to Bill with Enhanced Inventory turned on.
  • QuickBooks will now close all windows when enabling Enhanced Inventory Receiving feature.
  • Pressing the Return key after selecting “QuickView Serial Numbers” or “Add Multiple” will now open a window to select the Serial Number.
  • QuickBooks will no longer close unexpectedly when adding large serial numbers using the Add multiple serial number option.
  • Serial Numbers column will no longer display when viewing PDF forms. The contents will display in the description column.
  • When there are no serial numbers present for items, the Select All Button will be disabled from the Serial Number drop-down.
  • QuickBooks will now inform you when you use invalid delimiters (characters) with Serial Numbers.
  • In the Inventory Center when using Advance Inventory, the search results for specific sites will now display results for that particular site.
  • You will no longer have to close open transactions or reports prior to enabling FIFO.
  • You will no longer be able to edit and save transactions with Lot Numbers with negative quantities.
  • QuickBooks will no longer close unexpectedly when creating duplicate transfers from saved transactions.
  • Customers will no longer see “Turn On Advanced Inventory” in the Inventory menu when it has been activated.
  • Transaction List by Serial/Lot Number reportwill now display the correct signs when referring to increase and decrease of quantities.
  • Deleted Line items in Serial.Lot Number adjustments will no longer display when the transaction is saved.
  • On the Enter Bills form, “Select PO/Item Receipts” button text will be replaced with “Select Related Transactions”.
  • “Duplicate Serial Numbers are no longer visible in the Qty on Hand Serial Number Quick View when opened from the Inventory Center.
  • Purchase orders received in full with negative quantity line items will now convert correctly when Enhanced Inventory Receiving is turned on.
  • QuickBooks now validates that all necessary information has been entered when saving an assembly item. When necessary, messaging is displayed to explain what additional information must be entered.
  • The lot quantity can now be greater than 999.
Backup and Restore
  • QuickBooks backup counter now resets when a backup is created, preventing the backup reminder from displaying when a backup was just created.
  • QuickBooks will now back up tax forms created and will also back up the auto-archived PDF tax forms associated.
Calendar
  • Added support for keyboard shortcuts when selecting dates in the QuickBooks Calendar.
  • Invoices with a Pending status will no longer show open in the QuickBooks Calendar.
  • Vehicle Mileage transactions, timesheets and YTD adjustments will now show on the calendar.
  • Added the ability to create a To Do from the daily view of the calendar.
  • Bill status will now show Paid/Unpaid on the calendar instead of Open/Closed.
  • The calendar now shows both past due and upcoming items
  • There are preferences (accessed from the Edit menu and selecting preferences) that control the features of the calendar.
Condense Data
  • The option to delete transactions created by condensing the company file is only available in QuickBooks Accountant and Enterprise Solutions.
  • Condense data can now remove time and mileage activities outside the dates set during the Condense Data wizard.
  • Options available in Condense that were previously restricted to only Accountant Edition are now available to all Enterprise Solutions editions.
  • QuickBooks will no longer warn that Budget data may be removed at the beginning of the Condense Data process.
  • A report of transactions that could not be removed by condense is now available to Accountant and Enterprise users.
Database
  • QuickBooks will no longer display the message: Message: “Another user has made changes to this Invoice or a transaction that is linked to it” when creating or editing transactions in Multi-User mode.
Document Management
  • Improved QuickBooks support for TWAIN compliant scanners.
  • Improved usability of QuickBooks Document Center.
  • Users with view only permission can no longer delete locally attached documents.
  • Fixed an issue causing the “Attached To” column to be blank after upgrading from QuickBooks 2011 to QuickBooks 2012.
  • Improved performance of the QuickBooks Document Center when handling a large amount of documents.
Easy Setup Interview
  • Asset accounts added during Express Start will now be correctly available in the Chart of Accounts.
  • The Tab order has been improved on the Express Setup Contact Info page.
Excel (Send reports to Excel)
  • Reports updated from QuickBooks to Excel will keep the correct formatting.
  • Re-sending a report to Excel will no longer cause the column header(s) to be shifted.
  • Reports updated in Excel will now retain custom column widths saved in Excel the first time the report was used in Excel.
  • Column headings changed in Excel are now preserved when reports are updated from QuickBooks to Excel.
  • The Select Sheet dropdown is no longer disabled when sending a report to an existing workbook.
  • The progress bar message used when sending reports to Excel has been updated.
  • Send reports to Excel now supportw additional formats: 1) fill cell 2) percent 3) currency symbol 4) border lines.
  • A first time use message is now displayed when a QuickBooks 2011 report in Excel is first updated by a send from QuickBooks 2012.
  • Emailing a report as an Excel attachment will no longer also open a blank file in Excel.
  • Exporting a report to Excel now remembers the Excel file name you used last time based on the company file you are in for this same report.
  • Excel will no longer crash while exporting from QuickBooks if Office Live Plugin is installed.
Form Templates
  • Added improved messaging to upload Form Templates after the Template has been changed in a Data synced file.
Help
  • Help articles now have back and forward buttons.
Install
  • Many instances of the error 1603 have been fixed.
  • You can now change your QuickBooks Pro or Premier product to a subscription (Pro Plus or Premier Plus) by calling Intuit. You do not have to uninstall and reinstall to make the change. You can also change from a subscription product back to the standard installation of Pro or Premier.
Intuit PaymentNetwork (sold separately)
  • The Intuit Payment Network now has a preference that allows it to be completely turned off for a company file.
  • The Intuit Payment Network email that accompanies IPN-Linked invoices has been updated.
Inventory
  • Changing the sales or cost price for one item, then viewing a second item will no longer change the price of the second item. You will need to manually correct the sales price for any item that was changed to be incorrect even after installing Release 3 or later.
  • Changing quantity on checks linked to a purchase order will now save correctly.
  • “Print Item Information” will now replace “Print Vendor Information” when printing Item Information.
  • You will no longer see “No data to print” message when printing the Item List with the filters of Active Inventory, Assembly.
  • The markup price or percentage will no longer appear as zero when editing existing items that have have been updated to the latest version of QuickBooks.
  • New Inventory Item and New Inventory Assembly menu options will now open windows specific for the item being created.
  • In the Edit Item window, the Markup percentage will display up to 2 numbers past the decimal.
  • Users will no longer need to click the Build & Close button twice to save build assemblies.
  • The notes area on the Inventory Center are no longer hidden by the Transaction History.
  • Inventory Activities menu option will no longer appear under the Inventory menu. The sub menus will appear has individual options under Inventory.
  • Change Item Prices “Mark All” behavior has improved.
  • The warnings for blank serial or Lot numbers now work correctly based on the preferences set for the company file.
  • Resolved an issue where the Inventory Center does not display build assembly transactions when item filter is used
Invoices
  • Sent invoices will no longer show in the invoices to send list (send forms) from the File menu.
Lead Manager
  • The customer center now properly displays Address info fro a converted lead.
  • The “How does this work?” link now works correctly under Lead Center.
  • Leads can now be deleted.
  • There is now a menu of options that can be peformed when right clicking on a Lead.
Lists
  • “Item is inactive” check box is now available when creating a new Sales Tax Group item.
Name History on Transactions
  • The email address is no longer blurred in the Name History pane on transactions.
Payroll
  • Fixed an issue that caused Year to Date transactions to not show on the Calendar view.
  • Resolved an issue where Batch time sheet updates are affecting more than the selected employee
  • Fixed an issue preventing Sick/Vacation hours from being entered as a negative value.
  • Resolved an issue where Sick & Vacation balances do not update when editing a pending paycheck.
PDF
  • Resolved an issue where a Company name change is not reflected on the Send Invoice view.
Reports
  • The unit of measure used on the Inventory Item QuickReport is now correct. It now uses the default unit of measure for the item chosen when the item was first setup.
  • Lot Number by Site report will now open in the sample company file.
  • Transaction List by Serial Number report will no longer display the modified filters when clicking the Cancel button.
Reports Center
  • Memorized reports launched from the Reports Center instead of the Reports menu will no longer have an extra Date filter added.
  • The Shared Reports feature has been re-activated with improved performance.
  • The Reports Center will now open to the selected category, not just the Popular Reports category.
  • The Favorites Menu and Tab in the reports menu and reports center now show the correct reports.
  • The T5018 Canada sales tax report is no longer available in the US version.
Sales Tax
  • Changing a customer’s tax code on a Credit Memo will now correctly take affect.
Search
  • Filters are now correctly indented. The chosen filter shows in bold text so there is no need to expand and collapse them.
  • Results are now presented in the same order that the categories are listed and results are alphabetized inside each category.
SDK
  • Modifying a Bill Payment using the SDK has been improved.
Startup
  • “Webconnector unable to load” message will no longer be displayed.
  • The splash screen will no longer show QuickBooks 2011 when opening the program after changing the industry to Professional Services.
To Dos
  • Changing the “with” filter to “customer” in the Customer Center while viewing To Dos will now correctly show all To Dos associated with customers.
  • To Dos can now be deleted.
  • There is now a menu of options that can be peformed when right clicking on a To Do.
Users and Permisions
(Only available in Enterprise Solutions)
  • A new “Find Report” permission is available. This allows you to restrict a use from viewing/printing results of the Find menu option. Also, you can specifically enable this to give a user permissions to view or print the results.
Web Email Integration
  • Mozilla Thunderbird is now an available selection when setting up Email integration with QuickBooks.
  • QuickBooks will now correctly prompt for a password and send the report through email when using Webmail with QuickBooks to send reports.

News Flash – QuickBooks Point of Sale 10.0 Update R12 Released

The following changes and improvements were made to QuickBooks Point of Sale 10.0 in releases R2, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9, R10, R11and R12. Later releases (ones with higher numbers) include all changes in earlier releases.

Unless otherwise noted, these changes apply to all editions of Point of Sale — Point of Sale Basic and Point of Sale Pro.

 

Release (R12)

MAS
  • Improved card swipe recognition to help reduce swipe errors.
Release (R11)

Customers
  • Fixed a printing issue with custom filters where selecting “print all displayed” bring s up the entire customer list for printing.
Customer Orders
  • Resolved an issue where the payment method used on a deposit, did not carry over into the receipt correctly.
  • Resolved an ‘invalid input’ error that resulted from adding a special order item to an existing customer order.
General Functionality
  • The ‘X’ button now functions properly on the Quick Pick window.
  • Fixed an issue where the results display incorrectly when sorting by Active Price, Margin percent or Markup percent.
Inventory
  • Resolved the ‘object reference’ error which occurs when editing a Unit of Measure item.
  • Reorder point values which are cleared (blanked out or zeroed) will now hold their value.
  • Now able to sort the Item list by the column header.
MAS
  • Changing the Merchant number during the setup interview will now prompt to settle pending transactions.
PIN Pad
  • Support added for the Ingenico Telium iPP 3xx series PIN pad.
Receipts
  • Now able to print Held Receipts when accessing them from within the Sales Receipt.
  • Changing from one commissioned associate to another while in a receipt will now apply commission amounts to the appropriate associate.
  • Resolved an issue where POS would hang if the payment method was changed during the course of a transaction. Ex. Select credit as the payment type, swipe a card on the PinPad and select Debit.

Customers Orders
  • Resolved an issue preventing users from selling items on a customer order when viewed from the customer history.
Customers
  • Contact info now displays correctly when the Track as Company option is used on a customer record. Now when viewing the customer details, the contact name shows instead of the company name being listed twice.
  • Bill To Street 2 on a customer record is now available for editing.
Financial Exchange
  • Fixed an issue which caused an Unbalanced Payment error during Financial Exchange if shipping is taxed and receipt discount is used on a Receipt.
  • Comments entered on a payout transaction will now show properly in QuickBooks Financial.
General Functionality
  • Enhanced the Suggest PO workflow by changing the vendor drop-down list so it displays in alphabetical order.
  • Fixed an issue where the Generate PO window hides behind Point of Sale when you are creating a PO from the Suggest PO screen.
  • Checking the box for “Show me a list of the Purchase Orders created” on the Generate Purchase Order window now functions properly.
  • Sticky notes will now be cleared properly from the Client WS when it disconnects from the Server WS.
  • Resolved an issue preventing a receipt from being opened from the customer history if it is older than 30 days.
  • Fixed an issue causing sticky notes to be deleted on POS startup when there are no reminders.
  • Fixed an issue where multiple error windows show up if you minimize POS while you are in the Edit window of an item.
Inventory
  • Fixed a display issue where the line item buttons (Qty/Units, Qty+, Qty-, and Remove) continue to show even when the line is no longer selected.
  • The Unknown Field error no longer occurs when editing the price level field for a Unit of Measure item.
  • Resolved an issue where the items that make up a Quick Pick Group are not displayed properly if the Quick Pick Group name has an apostrophe.
  • The ability to add the ratings and trends column to the item list from a Client WS has been added.
Layouts
  • Fixed an issue where a newly created tax code would not display in the Inventory tax code list until POS was closed and opened. Now newly created tax codes display without having to close and reopen POS.
MAS
  • Enhanced functionality so that the Gift Card balance properly clears from the PinPad when checking a Gift Card balance.
  • The Gift Card Account number field has been expanded to twenty (20) characters in the Company preferences.
  • POS will no longer display an invalid exp date when manually entering or swiping a 19 digit credit card number.
Multi-Store Functionality
  • Added the ability to select the Remote Store on HQ Vouchers and Receipts.
Purchase Orders
  • Changed Quick Add item functionality so it no longer adds an automatic on hand quantity of 1.
Receipts
  • Enhanced the search feature on receipts so items with long descriptions, attributes, and sizes show without the text cutting off.
  • Fixed an issue which caused the Sell By Unit of Measure to listed twice when clicking on the Units button.
  • Added the ability to edit customer information on a receipt in the sales history.
  • Resolved an issue which could cause POS to freeze if you use the Open Cash Drawer keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + F8) while the Change window is still up.
  • Added the ability to drill down into the customer history from the customer edit form and from the customer view form in a receipt.
  • Fixed a Return/Exchange issue resulting in the discount amount being added to the return total when a global discount was used on the original receipt.
  • Added the ability to assign associates to item line individually. Previously making a change to the associate on the item line would changes all items lines to that associate.
Receiving Vouchers
  • The style button now works properly when creating a new item style from within a receiving voucher.
  • Scanning the UPC code on a new item now prompts to add the item. If yes is selected, the UPC field will auto-populate with the UPC code.
  • Added the ability to select an associate on a Receiving Voucher.
Reports
  • Resolved an issue causing POS to hang when opening and closing a Work Order from the Work Order Detail report.
  • POS Basic level will now allow users to drill down into customer and item list reports.
Release (R9)

Customers Orders
  • Resolved an issue that could cause Point of Sale to freeze up when selling a Customer Order item that has an assigned serial number.
  • Resolved an issue which would cause a Customer Order to close when entering an invalid value followed by hitting the enter key.
Customers
  • When working from the Customer Detail screen, double-clicking on a receipt now functions properly instead of launching the sales history.
  • Enhanced functionality for 1 day reporting when creating an email campaign and using the No Activity filter.
  • Print ID Card with now print all selected customers properly.
  • Detail view will now refresh correctly after editing/saving a record.
Financial Exchange
  • Fixed an issue which caused an Unbalanced Payment error during Financial Exchange if shipping is taxed and receipt discount is used on a Receipt.
General Functionality
  • Item description now sorts properly when using search from within a document.
  • Resolved the client workstation issue with connecting to the Server workstation after changing company files.
Inventory
  • Fixed the “object reference error” that occurs when adding a column to the item list.
  • Corrected an issue that could occur during the creation of a new Unit of Measure value, where duplicate values would show in the Unit of Measure list if the feature for Unit of Measure was not enabled.
  • Resolved an issue where an “object reference error” could occur during the setup of Units of Measure.
  • Corrected an issue causing code to display improperly when printing tags for all items.
  • Enhanced functionality with the item list’s available quantity so that it shows information specific to the item chosen.
  • Fixed an issue resulting in an invalid date error message when using list edit mode.
  • Resolved an issue which caused the Tax Code column box to show empty when editing the inventory list using list edit mode.
Receipts
  • Selecting a receipt from customer history that is older than 30 days no longer fails.
  • Clearing the default dollar amount when accepting cash payments now functions properly.
  • Restored shift functionality in all search boxes.
  • Search will now show results when entering two characters instead of requiring three character before showing results.
  • Fixed the Receipt Entity error incurred when tendering a receipt at a workstation while using a touchscreen monitor.
Receiving Vouchers
  • Added enhanced functionality when printing tags from vouchers and voucher history.
Reports
  • Changes made to memorized reports will now reflect the updates immediately instead of showing upon the next launch of Point of Sale.

General Functionality
  • Enhanced search behavior on the Home Screen so that it requires a consistent amount of characters to be typed in order for the search to start.
  • Improved multiple-word search functionality in documents.
  • Selecting a receipt from customer history that is older than 30 days no longer fails.

  • Enhanced the Change tax location functionality on Sales Receipts by adding the Exempt tax location to the list of selectable options.

  • Items such as Gift Cards, Gift Certificates and Redeemed Rewards now show in the Customer history.
  • Status (open, closed, pending, etc.) for Customer Orders now visible in the Customer History.
  • Receipt totals in customer history will now show two decimal places on whole dollar amounts.
  • Fixed an issue where the history for customer would display incorrectly after using the Search function on the Home Page.
General Functionality
  • Fixed an issue where newly entered data does not show up in lists after running a Data Cleanup.
  • Enhanced the ability to exit POS from the File Menu after cancelling the login screen during startup.
  • Improved Quick Find functionality after updates are installed.
Import/Export Data
  • Now able to open Excel attachments that have been emailed without the “file is corrupt” message.
Inventory
  • Added the ability to apply a custom filter with saving the filter by first using a unique name.
  • Corrected display issues when using Unit of Measure where the base regular price would show incorrectly.
  • Expanded the date field on the edit item window to show the full date and year.
Multi-Store Functionality
  • Fixed an issue where a newly created customer does not show up in the receipt after completing a mailbag exchange when using the Intuit Service method of file transfer.
  • Fixed an issue when setting up Desktop mailbag exchange – Error 175400. The email address is not valid.
Purchase Orders
  • Fixed an issue where creating new styles from within a document results in the previous item style’s information being pulled into the new item style.
  • Fixed an issue where a Purchase Order opens blank from the Purchase Order list after it has been created
Receipts
  • Enhanced the way discount percentage and original price display when giving a line item discount.
  • Fixed an issue where the Account dialog window does not close and the amount does not update properly when accepting tips on an account payment.
  • Give Discount amount now properly applied when using the pressing Enter on the keyboard.
  • Improved Bar Code Scanning functionality when used in conjunction with large data files.
  • Tip amount for sales transactions now shows in the sale history.
  • Fixed an issue causing the MasterCard number to improperly display after payment approval.
  • Added a new field for discount amount to the qty/price dialog on receipts.
  • Added Num Pad functionality for entering tips when Touchscreen features are enabled.
  • Improved the way newly selected columns display in lists.

  • The Item Description field was enlarged.
  • The default list filter for sales history is now 30 days.
  • Item and customer list filters can be customized.
  • Save & New and Save & Edit buttons added.
  • Required fields are now indicated.
  • List values now display Yes/No instead of True/False.
  • Vendor search now excludes inactive vendors.
  • Customer shipping address now displays correctly.
Reports
  • Resolved an issue where reports could incorrectly indicate the ability to drill down into results.
  • Dashboard reports update less frequently to improve system performance.
QuickBooks Integration
  • Resolved an issue where vendor street addresses could be incorrectly put in Street 2 instead of Street 1.
  • Resolved an issue where an unbalanced payment error could result when using a customer reward and a gift card on the same receipt.
Other
  • Cost is blanked out correctly if the current user doesn’t have rights to see it.
  • Resolved an issue where a RPC error would appear upon startup.
  • Ship To and Bill To field titles added to Purchase Orders.
  • Reminder notes are now updated correctly after clearing reminders.
  • Resolved an issue where scheduled backups would not occur.
  • Resolved an issue where an exception error could occur after changing preferences.

Release (R2)

Customers
  • Point of Sale now asks if the customer should be removed in QuickBooks when it is is removed from POS.
  • The tax location can now be selected when creating a new customer..
Database
  • You can now specify if you want to use a multi-user database connection when performing company operations.
Financial Exchange
  • There is no longer an unbalanced payment error when a financial exchange updates and existing receipt that has changed.
General Functionality
  • Enabling the Unit of Measure feature and choosing to add the UOM column and buttons to lists and documents now correctly adds the column and buttons where appropriate.
  • The x button on the top-right corner of Point of Sale now correctly closes the program.
Inventory
  • The Unit of Measure pull down for items is now refreshed when the edit item or new item window is closed and re-opened.
  • The QuickBooks options now display correctly in the edit item screen.
  • A unit of measure that has been selected for an item will now be hidden from the menu so it cannot be selected again on the same item.
  • Deleted items will not show in Suggested POs and Receiving vouchers.
Layouts
  • Column widths will now be correctly remembered.
MAS
  • Point of Sale will automatically check for an attempt to resolve unsettled transactions from the day before. If transactions are settled, the following message will be displayed: Unsettled merchant transactions detected There are unsettled transactions detected that are one day old or older.  In order to prevent potential increased fees or loss of payment it is strongly recommended you allow settlement now.
  • Point of Sale will no longer display Socket Error 11004 when attempting to tender a receipt with Merchant Account enabled but no internet connection is currently available.
Price Manager
  • Price manager automatic discounts will now correctly calculate on Sales Receipts.
Receipts
  • The enter key now saves changes when modifying the price or the discount in the Make a Sale window.
Reports
  • Home page reports menu now populates all reports even when the preference to have all users “sign in” is not enabled.
Setup Interview
  • The setup interview now displays the entire receipt message.

News Flash – QuickBooks Payroll Revised Tax Tables Update 21204

Payroll Update: Revised Tax TablesIntuit has released Payroll Update 21204, which includes revised tax tables. Several forms updates are also included for Standard and Enhanced Payroll customers.

How do I get the Payroll Update?

It’s important that you receive everything in the Payroll Update to make sure that you are in compliance with legislation that affects your payroll. Just follow these three simple steps:

  1. Check to see if you have Automatic Updates turned on.
    Choose Help > Update QuickBooks.
    – On the Options tab, you will see either Yes or No selected for Automatic Update.
  2. If Yes is selected, verify that you received Payroll Update 21204 from within QuickBooks. Go to Employees > Get Payroll Updates. You should see a message that says, “You are using tax table version 21204.”If you do not have version 21204, you need to download the update manually. Click here for instructions.
  3. If No is selected for Automatic Update, you need to download the update manually. Click here for instructions.
