How to Spread only Freight and Not Discounts in QuickBooks Point of Sale

Good Morning, Ruth – I have a question concerning QuickBooks Point of Sale, and I’m not sure if you can help me. I can across your website while searching for answers and found your e-mail. I am new to QuickBooks and an still trying to figure out how everything works. When receiving a PO I would like to account for a discount and freight charge. I know how to do this and how to spread them over each item. However, for this particular voucher I would like to only spread the freight over each item and not the discount (but still account for the discount as a separate line item.) I cannot figure out how to do this, if it is even possible. Any insight or suggestions you may have are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! Have a great day! And thanks again!
As you noticed, spreading discount, freight and fees is an all or nothing proposition. However, you can create a service item and list what you don’t want to spread right on the receiving voucher. Just make sure to map the item to the appropriate QuickBooks accounts. If you have other service items, you also might want to create a department called vendor discounts.
However, before you go down this road, you might want to check with your CPA first because this will lead to your average cost being overvalued. I’m not a tax advisor, but the IRS might not be okay with this.
