How to Ring Up Miscellaneous Items with Various Prices in QuickBooks Point of Sale

Hi Ruth. I’m using QuickBooks Point of Sale 10.0 and I have a bunch of costume jewelry with various prices. Is there a way to just manually ring up these items when checking out a customer? What is the best way to handle it?

You could create a jewelry non-inventory item; however, it won’t keep track of what you have on-hand. Instead, you might want to consider creating inventory items by price point – $5 jewelry, $10 jewelry, $15 jewelry, etc.

News Flash – How will New Year’s holiday (Monday, January 2, 2012) Affect My QuickBooks Payroll Processing

To allow for the New Year’s Day holiday, you might need to send payroll a day earlier than usual. Doing so will help you to comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act and ensure timely payroll tax payments.

If your normal paycheck date is on 1/2/2012, you should:

  1. Change your paycheck date for your direct deposit employees to Friday, 12/30/11.
  2. Send your payroll by 5 PM Pacific Time on Wednesday, 12/28/11.

If your paycheck date is immediately before or after New Year’s Day, consult the table that follows to find out when to send your payroll and when your account will be debited.

QuickBooks Payroll New Year's Day

*Accounts are typically debited before regular banking hours, so you should make sure you have funds in your account to cover the payroll on the day before the actual debit occurs.

How to Record Consumer Financing Fees Withheld from a Customer’s Payment in QuickBooks

Ruth, one more question, please. We just took our first payment for consumer financing. The finance company withheld $101 from the customer’s payment, which is a finance charge or processing fee. How do I record or post the $101 deduction from the customer’s invoice. Thanks Ruth.

Create a service item using your finance charge/processing fee expense account. Then add it to your invoice with a negative amount. This will reduce the invoice down to the amount you’ll actually receive and increase your finance fee expenses.

How to Pull a Month-End Balance Sheet for each of the Last Six Months in QuickBooks

Good morning! How do I pull a month-end balance sheet for each of the last six months? Thank you for your assistance!
This is one of my favorite report customizations! I do it often for Profit & Loss reports.

Select Customize Report, change your date range to include only the last 6 months, and then change your Columns to Month.
