How to Delete and Merge Unnecessary Accounts in QuickBooks |

Hi Ruth. Do you think I can “clean up” my chart of accounts? We are running QuickBooks Premier for NonProfits 2010. There are so many unnecessary accounts, it seems like the chart of accounts should be more simple. What do you think?

You can and you should. Delete all the accounts you haven’t used (if you’ve used it, QuickBooks won’t let you delete it).

You can also merge similar accounts by renaming the account you want to merge so it has the same exact name as the account you want to merge it with. Be careful though, it’s very easy to merge and very difficult to unmerge. You might want to back-up your file before starting just in case you want to go back and start over again.
