How to Choose Which Version of QuickBooks to Use with QuickBooks POS

A friend told me that Ruth was awesome to work with so I’ve started my QuickBooks POS testing process by downloading a trial from your site.

I had been expecting to link my QuickBooks Online accounting system to the QuickBooks POS but discovered that QuickBooks POS needs a desktop version of QuickBooks.

My question is this: is that actually true or am I missing something?

If true, do you have any suggestions of easiest way to migrate from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Pro?

I appreciate any tips or help you can provide.

Thanks

Unfortunately, it’s true. QuickBooks POS doesn’t work with QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Mac.

How to Locate the Correct Data File in QuickBooks

Hi. We want to know if you can recover our data.

We are running QuickBooks Enterprise 11.0. Two computers use the data. The host and workstation.

The work station went down with a virus. We had the computer sent out to our repair tech to get fixed. We used the host computer for the last week. We got back the workstation today and put it back into the network. Some how during the day today all of the data from the last week until today was lost.
The QuickBooks file was written over with the “old file” that the workstation had. There is no QuickBooks data stored on the workstation. We need you to recover all of the data that we entered for the last week.

Can you do this?

Thanks

It sounds like the work station is accessing the wrong file. You just need to browse to the correct one.

The easiest way to find the path is to go to File > Open Previous Company.

You can also search your network for all QuickBooks files be searching for *.qbw. This will bring up a list of all files ending in .qbw.

How to Change the Account Mapping Between QuickBooks POS and QuickBooks

Hi Ruth. We are tracking down a QuickBooks Financial / QuickBooks POS problem.

It appears that items created in our QuickBooks POS are batching over into QuickBooks Financial as Non-Inventory item, fine enough.

It appears that some QuickBooks POS Non-Inventory Items in the QuickBooks Financial program has a COGS account in the EXPENSE ACCOUNT box but we think it should be an inventory account in the EXPENSE ACCOUNT box. Hence our COGS are over stated and our INVENTORY is understated because when we make a purchase QuickBooks now credits our COGS instead of INVENTORY.

Are these QuickBooks POS Non-Inventory items supposed to have an ASSET account OR an INVENTORY account mapped in the EXPENSE ACCOUNT dialog box?

What do you think?

QuickBooks POS controls how the transactions are mapped to QuickBooks. You can change the defaults in File > Preferences > Company > Financial > Accounts (note there are two tabs – Basic and Advanced).

But if only some of your items are mapping incorrectly, the accounts have probably been changed at the item level. If so, you’ll need to change them back. You can also change all your accounts at once by checking the box next to Apply accounts to existing items in your Accounts preferences.
