News Flash – How will Columbus Day (Monday, October 14, 2013) affect my QuickBooks payroll processing?

To allow for the Columbus Day holiday, you might need to send payroll a day earlier than usual. Doing so will help you to comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act and ensure timely payroll tax payments.

If your normal paycheck date is on 10/14/13, you should:

  1. Change your paycheck date for your direct deposit employees to Friday, 10/11/13.
  2. Send your payroll:
    • Do-It-Yourself Payroll (Enhanced, Basic, Standard) and Assisted Payroll – by 5 p.m. Pacific Time on Wednesday, 10/9/13.
    • Intuit Online Payroll and QuickBooks Online Payroll - by 5 p.m. Pacific Time on Wednesday, 10/9/13.
    • Intuit Full Service Payroll (IFSP) - by 3 p.m. Pacific Time on Wednesday, 10/9/13.

If your paycheck date is immediately before or after Columbus Day, consult the table that follows to find out when to send your payroll and when your account will be debited.

News Flash – Recent changes, improvements, and fixes in QuickBooks Point of Sale 2013 (R6)

Given all the problems Intuit has had with recent updates – for both QuickBooks and QuickBooks POS – I’d normally recommend waiting a week or two before installing any updates.  However, if you’ve installed R5 and have an Intuit POS merchant account, there’s a chance you’ve processed duplicate credit card charges for some of your clients.  I can’t imagine anything worse so it’s probably best to cross your fingers, knock on wood, hold your nose and install it.
